Welcome to Class Act and to your English 122 class. We will have an exciting and interesting semester. One item I would like to share with you now. I am participating in a grant which will require some student participation to help generate the study's results. The first thing you will notice will be the syllabus. I call it a living syllabus because it will change as the course progresses. In fact, the course syllabus will be the cornerstone of the study. So, if you have checked the syllabus before now, upon your next visit to that web page, you will see that it has changed. The course content will remain the same, but I will continue to work and revise it as the semester continues. I am excited about the opportunity to get to work with a great team of university professionals who will use our English class to glean research information; and at the same time, I will learn new teaching strategies and more about how to use the internet as an effective teaching tool by creating and using an interactive syllabus. Another key component to the study is Black Board, an on line teaching environment. Further down on the page you will find instructions for logging onto Black Board. For you who are considering teaching, I hope this grant will provide you an opportunity to watch this old teaching dog learn new tricks, while providing you with an opportunity to witness education as evolutionary process. Hang on to your hats and enjoy the ride.
