A Day of Terror: Tuesday, September 11th, 2001

I arrived in New York late on Monday, September 10th and went straight to the Marriott World Trade Center Hotel in the World Trade Center. It is located in the middle of the two towers. The hotel staff put me on the 20th floor, which is the concierge level. I took advantage of what I thought was a benefit and went down the hall from my room to the concierge lounge to get a drink and read a magazine. Things were quite uneventful that night. I wandered back to my room, took a bubble bath, put on my pajamas, set my alarm for 9 the next morning, and called a few people to chat about arrangements for the next few days. I was planning on being in Boston the next evening to pick up one of my dear friends Megan who now attends Harvard. Unfortunately I never made it to Boston. I missed our visit.   full text

My Summer Experience at USC

Wow! What an intense summer. After becoming accustomed to studying one course after another, I was privileged and challenged to three courses at the same time during the summer residency. The summer session at USC was quite refreshing providing an opportunity to look at the high caliber individuals at work within a Carnegie Research-I university. Away from that, I want to share a unique experience that occurred before the privilege of kneeling at Gate No.4 at USC to kiss the ground I would spend the next six weeks walking upon.  full text
