R. Thomas Berner is a professor
emeritus of journalism and American studies and ended his career in
June as the director of continuing and distance education in the College
of Communications at Pennsylvania State University. (E-mail CoalCracker@psu.edu).
Beatriz Tomsic Cerkez was born
in Buenos Aires, Argentina were she received her degree in architecture
at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism in 1987. In 1988, she moved
to Slovenia and, in 1993, earned a degree at the Academy of Fine Arts
at the University in Ljubljana, and later a masters in Sociology of Culture
at the Faculty of Filosophy in Ljubljana. She is professor for Didactics
of Art Education at the Faculty of Education in Ljubljana, where she is

Lynne K. Fukuda is Distance
Education Specialist at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and is a regular
contributor to this journal in the monthly column, "The View From Here." Her previous column, "Fukuda's
Chalkboard," can be found in the January-August 2002 editions of
this journal, as well as various other writings in the 2001 editions.

Karen Heise is finishing an
M.A. in English at the University of Northern Colorado, where she served
as Editor-in-Chief of Academic Exchange Extra through August 2003.
She has published fiction, essays, poetry and articles and will have poetry
forthcoming in The Journal of Lesbian Studies in 2004. She currently

Peter Pierre is originally
from Sweden, having arrived in Australia in 1989. He is a post-graduate
student studying Library Science at Curtin University in Western Australia.
His undergraduate years were spent studying culture and creative writing,

Grace Rood is a junior Elementary
Education major at the University of Northern Colorado. She loves Mark
Twain's writing, and finds it interesting that they share the same birthday.
One of four siblings, she was home schooled from kindergarten through
