Lynne Fukuda is an instructor of Biology at Hawaii
Pacific University and is a regular contributor to this journal in her
monthly column, "The View From Here." Her previous column, "Fukuda's
Chalkboard," can be found in the January-August 2002 editions of
this journal, as well as various other writings in the 2001 editions.
Charles Balch
is currently a Ph.D. student in the Louisiana State University (LSU) program
of Educational technology. His major focus is developing and promoting
free educational tools such as his http://yacs.org

Elie Antopol is the pseudonym
of Marvin Gettleman, Ph.D.,
emeritus professor of history at Brooklyn Polytechnic University in New
York City. He is author and editor of a dozen books, including a biography
of the educator John H. Finley (1863-1941), a study of the Johns Hopkins
Seminary of History and Politics (5 vols. Garland, 1989-91) and Vietnam
and America: A Documented History (Grove Press, 1995). He is currently
at work on a study of the U.S. Communist Party's work in the field of

Carol Fletcher, Ph.D.,
is an assistant professor and coordinator of print journalism in the Department
of Journalism and Mass Media Studies at Hofstra University. She is interested
in media coverage of mental health and aging and is currently working

S. Purcell Woodard,
Ph.D., is the Associate Director for both the McNair Program
and Early Identification Program at the University of Washington. Both
programs serve undergraduates who are low income, underrepresented, and/or
first-generation college; both programs prepare these students to pursue
and excel in post-baccalaureate education. Steve's poetry has appeared
in multiple journals, including Multicultural Education and the
Journal of Critical Inquiry into Curriculum and Instruction. (E-mail:
