chapter 10
october 1
lightning,
cloud to cloud--
no sound
october 2
seated on a bench--
a curly-haired woman
and her poodle
october 3
waddling geese
follow sunrise golfers and
honk loudly
october 4
lime-coloured leaves
beneath these dark clouds
glow quietly
october 5
yellow leaves
beneath these dark clouds
don’t glow
october 6
red leaves
beneath these dark clouds--
two boys argue
october 7
in the night sky:
passengers in a plane that
screams by my home
october 8
nighttime, outside:
i bounce on the trampoline
and feel jumpy
october 9
white fog:
it does not hide
the orange sun
october 10
i understand
victoria's secret--
eat lettuce
october 11
a porpoise plays
in the mad wash of the boat's
propeller
october 12
three deer swimming
between evergreen islands--
killer whales, nearby
october 13
the steel-thick hull
bounces through white-caps--
a grey whale slides by
october 14
i love thunder--
the way it rattles windows
and makes me afraid
october 15
transmission lines
hum above the pasture
and cows
october 16
a kangaroo and
a radio telescope--
frozen in silence
october 17
my rock skips,
changing the still lake--
dogs bark
october 18
black clouds,
in the moonlit sky--
amoebas
october 19
in the lake,
a trout shimmers--
then it's gone
october 20
a quarter moon--
an old man's twisted face
grins or scowls
october 21
cool night wind pulls
my hair as i close my eyes
in joy
october 22
oil-black waves:
i stand on the dock and breath--
a loon laughs
october 23
the only window
left in the cabin glows
red in this sunset
october 24
the old man on a
bench at the busy park--
asleep
october 25
twilight--
a black cloud snakes between
indigo sky
october 26
crisscrossing trees
strewn on dirty gravel--
a dried up river
october 27
the neighbour’s flag,
a food-store special
tattered already
october 28
five cows
walk slowly in line--
cars fly by
october 29
a log house
in a green meadow--
the roof’s gone
october 30
poplars
leafless at sunrise--
skeletons
october 31
the train chugs
and winds along the dusty
riverbed
